Living in the Pacific NorthWest has its perks, but also has its challenges. We have one of the most damp areas in the United States. This lends itself greatly to one of our biggest enemies when it comes to detail work…..MOLD & MILDEW. Properly remediating mold is essential to ensuring it will not return. This is a very vast subject so I’m going to touch on just a few key things to know about it.
Mildew & mold infect more than just the inside of the vehicle. Arterial mold is incredibly common when a car is sitting for a while in our area. The biggest problem with this is it becomes an infection. Clear coat is porous so the arterial fungus actually grows and roots into clear coat and all those nooks and crannies. Simply brushing it off will not stop its return. You have to use a decontamination product that is safe for your vehicle to actually kill it ! I show you such a product in this video.
Interior mold and mildew can be much more hazardous to one’s health. The problem is locating the source of the infestation. It is not enough to address just what you can see. You have to discover where the original problem came from. Checking all your seals and compartments is a great start. Once you discover the beginning you can clean it all up and stop it from returning. We do this with a thorough detail and then ozone treatment. Ozone kills 99.9% of bacteria and viruses in the vehicle. This service along with locating the cause is the recipe for proper remediation.
Always remember that mold is bad for the health of you and your family. Mold’s main goal is to spread. It is sporous and can easily get behind the dash and in all the dark, damp areas of your vehicle. Mold causes respiratory issues and can lead to chronic asthma and even permanent damage in the lungs. Find the source and eradicate it! Stop it from happening by checking all those dark areas once a month. Those areas include: spare tire area, glove boxes, cowl under hood, trunks, window seals and door trim area.
